Desktop workstations

The desktop workstation is a powerful computer designed for highly efficient work with professional applications in various fields. What are the differences between a workstation and an ordinary desktop computer? These are mainly the technical parameters:

Processor. The larger the number of computing cores in the processor, the more efficiently the tasks are performed. A desktop workstation can have more than 20 cores per each processor, as well as use several multi-core processors simultaneously.

Random access memory (RAM). 32 GB RAM is considered the minimum. But some scientific computing applications require up to 512 GB.

Data storage. For professional purposes, only hard drives or SSDs are not sufficient. This is why multilevel RAID arrays are used.

Workload. All components are designed for continuous and reliable operation at high workload. Workstations are intended for activities that are carried out 24/7.

Usage and the right choice. A workstation is purchased in accordance with a specific need. Therefore, there can be no uniform parameters and universal configurations. Workstations are most often used in the following activities:

• automated design systems - CAD;
• professional processing of video materials;
• work with graphics: rendering, 3D modelling, animation;
• work in recording studios;
• scientific and technical activities.
