Common Laptop Problems: Causes, Prevention, and Solutions
The Most Common Problems Our Customers Encounter
In today's article, we will address the most popular laptop problems that our clients experience, the most frequent reasons for their visits to our service center, and what needs to be done to avoid them.
1. Customer Ignorance and Lack of Knowledge
One of the most common problems is improperly installed drivers resulting from customer ignorance and unwillingness to purchase an operating system. Another frequent problem we've encountered is when children (and adults) eat food while working on the computer. All crumbs and food remnants get into the keyboard, which stops working after a very short period. Drinks are also very dangerous -- spilling liquid on a keyboard often leads to its failure.
A common problem occurs when someone places a mouse, USB drive, flash drive, etc. on the keyboard and closes the laptop with it inside. This almost always leads to matrix damage. We can also add to this category accidentally dropping a laptop -- left on the edge of a table, bed, or sofa and then dropped on the floor. Ultrabook models are extremely thin, and the covers are very delicate. When opening a laptop, it's best to hold it in the middle, not abruptly from one side, as this can lead to twisting and breaking the display.
2. Incorrect Laptop Usage
Incorrect use of the machine is also a popular problem. For example, using the laptop while lying down and placing it on a blanket or woolen cover causes the machine's fan to suck in fine fibers from the blanket. This leads to laptop clogging, which in turn leads to cooling problems for the processor's video card. The device starts to shut down and restart because cooling cannot maintain the nominal processor degrees, and it enters a protective mode. To prevent this problem, it's good to perform frequent maintenance, including dust removal and thermal paste replacement.
Maintenance is quite important for the normal operation of any machine, as prolonged overheating leads to nothing good. Many clients think that once they buy a laptop, they'll use it forever without changing anything. When a client notices a problem with the laptop (such as overheating), it's important to act promptly. A maintenance check, for example, can extend the life of your machine.
Try to protect your laptop from pets and insects. There are cases of pets (cats, dogs) chewing on charging cables and instances where insects enter the laptop and cause damage because they are electrically conductive.
3. Operating System Update Problem and BIOS Crash
This is a global problem where people often say, "I didn't do anything, it just stopped working." Here, neither the user nor the seller is to blame. This is a problem initiated by Microsoft -- very often during one of the updates, the machine's BIOS crashes. This cannot be fixed by an end-user and requires the intervention of a service technician. The reason for the crash is a mismatch between manufacturers -- the BIOS chip manufacturer has their own drivers, while Windows Update finds a completely different driver.
4. Burning Through Peripheral Devices or So-Called "Phasing"
This problem most often occurs when the client connects their laptop or computer to a TV (most often via HDMI). It's good that both devices are definitely turned off when this happens. Two reasons can lead to such a problem -- the difference in potentials of the power grid and if the contacts are not grounded and neutral.
A similar problem can arise when using USB peripherals (such as flash drives and printers). Windows has an option that very few people use -- first removing the USB device software. This stops the electricity supply to it, and then it is physically removed.
5. Malware Infection
Since the introduction of Windows 10, computers are increasingly less likely to be infected with malware. Most often, problems occur with banking and phishing attacks sent via email.
## Conclusion
In conclusion, we rarely encounter problems caused by the hardware itself. In most cases, the problems are those that users cause themselves -- either knowingly or out of ignorance. We are aware that everyone has been in a similar situation, and we try to react and help as quickly and successfully as possible.
