How to extend the battery life of the iPhone?

By purchasing an iPhone or another smartphone, we are aware that the battery is a consumable. With time, and with the phone’s usage, the battery life decreases. Is it possible to stop this process, and how to extend the battery life? We are all asking ourselves these questions. Unfortunately, the process is irreversible, but it can be delayed in time. In this article, we – the hop.bg team – will provide you with some guidance on how to optimise the use of your iPhone to prolong its battery life as much as possible.

How to extend the battery life of the iPhone?

Here are some tips On what to do to extend the battery life of your iPhone:

  • Location Services. This is one of the things that wastes your battery the most. Turn it off, but not completely. Go to Settings — Privacy — Location Services. Scroll down and choose which apps you need to have permanently turned on, which ones to be on only while you use them, and which ones not to be turned on at all.
  • System Services. You've probably never logged into this section, so each of the options is turned on. We recommend turning off all of them except for Emergency Calls and SOS, Find my iPhone and Share my location. You can find that in Settings — Privacy — Location Services — System Services.
  • In System Services, you also have a Significant Locations option, which stores the places you've visited most often. If it’s not important for you that your phone “knows” where you go, turn it off.
  • Let’s go back to System Services. In the bottom is the Product Improvement section. Turn off all options. They send information to Apple so that Apple can improve their products. It is useful for them, but unnecessary for you, as it drains your battery.
  • Close all open applications. In addition to hampering your phone’s performance, especially if you've opened countless tabs in the browser plus another 2-3 games, for example, they drain your battery and they do it very quickly.
  • Optimise your notifications. Go to Setting — Notifications and take a good look at which apps you want to receive notifications from.
  • Background App Refresh. This option allows apps to download content for the iPhone even if you're not using them. We recommend for this option to tick Wi-Fi, and not Wi-Fi and Mobile Data, since with a poor Internet connection more battery is used. Also, from the list of apps, choose which ones you want to constantly update their content, including to make updates.
  • Turn on the Reduce Motion function. The battery drains the fastest when you play 3D games. This is because the phone uses GPU (Graphics Processes Unit). Using the Reduce Motion option, not only you won't feel any difference when playing a game, but also your battery will drain more slowly.
  • Turn on the Reduce White Point function in the menu Accessibility — Display and Text Size. Set this option to 50 %. It reduces the brightness of your iPhone display, which can be quite useful for you when you're watching something with the lights off.
  • Turn on Optimise Battery Charging. This function preserves the longer life of your battery.
  • Disconnect unnecessary Widgets from your Home screen. They‘re something like mini apps that also drain your battery, and it’s better to remove them if you don’t use them.
  • Turn off the Mail app’s Push check. Go to Settings again, click Mail — Accounts and go to Fetch New Data.
  • Turn off everything from Analytics and Improvements, from the menu Settings — Privacy. This option shares information with Apple on how you use your phone.
  • Turn off your phone at least once a week. The iPhone, like a small computer, needs a restart from time to time.

As we already mentioned, the battery is a consumable, and sooner or later, no matter how much we have followed all recommendations and advice for extending its life, there comes a time when it needs to be replaced. And at hop.bg, all second-hand iPhones have a 6-month battery warranty. Visit our showrooms throughout the country, or look at our offers online.
