The essentials about refurbished phone displays.
Today we decided to pay attention to one of the topics that we comment on most often in the field of phones - the display. Original or not original and is it even wise to change it? Much of what is written is the result of observations of customer preferences in Hop.bg stores.
1. Original or not original display?
The majority of Hop.bg customers prefer not to change the phone display and use it with the typical light scratches. The reason is that our users know that these displays are produced by an official phone manufacturer. Accordingly, they have a quality standard and their colors are much brighter than non-original copies. Original displays also have a better resolution. Each of them passes various tests for durability and functionality, which we are not sure are met by substitutes.
Most non-original displays are produced in Third World countries. They may not even physically fit the device. When you take two phones, one with an original and one with a non-original display, the quality of the original is clearly visible.
2. Which is more cost-effective?
One of the main factors when choosing a display is the price. A new original display for an iPhone, for example, is twice as expensive as a replacement. Here, it is also important how expensive the phone itself is. There is an option for a new original display to cost as much as the phone itself for which it is intended. In such cases, replacing the display becomes pointless.
We advise our customers to use the phone with minimal complaints before we replace their display. After the replacement, the new display will be of lower quality than the original one. And after opening the phone, it is no longer water and moisture resistant. There is also a risk of affecting some of the components inside, such as the motherboard and battery.
With Samsung, the price of the display is already huge. A display for a 2-3 year old phone ranges between 300 and 600 BGN. The reason they are so expensive for Samsung is the difference in production technology. Samsung uses OLED technology. It is significantly more expensive than Incell technology, which is mainly used in iPhones. For this reason, the quality of the display is better.
When the display breaks, most Samsung users prefer to buy another phone. It is simply not worth the price to replace the display. Here we are talking about situations in which the display is broken and cannot be repaired. There are also Asian copies, whose prices are much more affordable.
3. Housing
The procedure for Samsung and iPhone panels is different. On the iPhone, there is a panel that acts as a housing, and the display is separate from it. On Android models, the display is attached to the housing and the back glass is removed. There are two options for replacing the display on Android. You can order a display and housing kit and simply replace the components inside, or the display can be separated from the housing. However, in the second option, there is no guarantee that the display will survive.
In other words - when replacing an iPhone display (excluding the iPhone 15), only the display is replaced. While with Android models, you start with the back cover, through the bottom, battery, panel, and only then is the display removed. For this reason, we do not recommend replacing the display on Samsung models, unless there is no other solution to the problem. Replacement is expensive, time-consuming, and has many risks.
With Apple models, the risks of replacing a panel are similar to those of Android. One of the frequent customer problems is replacing the rear glass. At first glance, this seems like an elementary task, but it hides its risks and dangers. There are many components under the glass, such as dual-band cables, battery, and sensors. Even when removing the glass, there is a chance that pieces of it will fall into the phone and remain in it after the repair. This can lead to a puncture in the battery and the need for a new repair.
In summary, we can say the following - It all depends on what type of person the user is. Will he be a perfectionist who wants everything to look perfect and would prefer to replace the display, or will he be the type of user who has no problem with having the occasional scratch on it?
