In this blog article, we continue the topic of iPhone batteries. We will pay attention to the options for extending the life of the battery and the situations in which its replacement is inevitable.

1. What to do if a battery replacement is inevitable?

In fact, the problems begin when it is necessary to buy a new battery. A brand new original phone battery costs an average of between 150 and 200 euros. So if, for example, you have a device that costs 300-400 leva and you have to pay the same amount to replace the battery, the whole process becomes financially meaningless.

There are two cases in which the battery is replaced. An inevitable replacement (the old battery does not work) and a replacement to insert a little more life into the battery. Keep in mind that the second option does not always mean more life for the battery. Usually it is replaced with an Asian copy. The Asian copies in question, which are widely available on the market, are "famous" for their lower capacity, and the risks of replacing them are high. The battery can last the same time, behave in the same way, and the user may think that having replaced the battery will make some incredible difference. But over time, the new battery wears out faster, since its elements are of lower quality.

In general, there are several options. If we have a problem with the battery, we replace it. The disadvantages of non-original ones are that the software will show that the battery is non-original and the element itself is of lower quality.

2. Battery health

Another important thing we need to address is battery health. It does not always measure exactly how the battery is behaving. This also depends on the phone model. In the Pro versions of the iPhone, for example, the battery capacity is greater and even at 85-86 percent battery health it works without any problems at all. There are also the opposite examples, where at 85-86 percent battery health the phone starts to restart. In such cases, it is a good idea to replace the battery, as there is clearly a problem. In short – replacing a battery depends not only on the numbers, but also on its behavior.

The life of a battery is not divided into years, but into cycles. Depending on the models, it is different. For example, on older models it is up to 500 cycles. On the iPhone 15, the battery can now hold up to 1000 cycles without any problems. This, of course, does not mean that after these 1000 cycles it stops functioning. It should be emphasized here that one cycle does not represent one battery charge in a socket, but charging the battery from 0 to 100 percent. On the iPhone 15, an option has been introduced in the battery settings, according to which the phone can be charged up to a limit of 80%. On the older ones, there is the option of optimized charging up to 80% on fast charge and more balanced charging after that.

There is no battery health on Android devices. From this point of view, Apple has taken out a lot more things to keep its customers informed. If there is a problem with the battery on Android devices, it will not be visible on the screen.

3. How is the battery replaced?

Most often, the battery needs to be replaced with an alternative non-original copy. Replacing it with an original one is quite pointless, because it is not financially profitable at all. On models older than the iPhone 15, the battery is replaced on the side of the display. For this purpose, the display is removed to get to the battery, which is attached to the bottom. This is where the risks come in, as a component on the bottom, one of the Bluetooth or WiFi antennas and one of the speakers can be damaged. The biggest risk in this case is the display breaking. Therefore, on the iPhone 15, opening is now done from the back to preserve the display. Another problem is that when replacing a component, the phone is no longer moisture-resistant.

In short – it is best for the health of the battery not to use the full depth from 0 to 100 percent. If the phone allows, then it should be charged between 20 and 80%. Even more frequent charging from 20 to 80% significantly extends its life. Another thing that is good to limit is the use of wireless charging. It overheats phones and shortens battery life, especially if we are working on it and have background processes that load the motherboard and processors.

When it comes to replacement – the options are original and alternative. The original is more expensive (even in most cases too expensive), but with better quality, while the alternative is cheaper, but with lower quality.
