Which iPad to choose - part 1

Today we have chosen a topic that is quite interesting. We will pay attention to the slightly less familiar product of Apple compared to the iPhone – the iPad. We will look at its pros and cons and for which groups of people it is suitable. We will pay attention to all the varieties of current tablets that are currently offered by Apple.

1. iPad Mini

We start with the smallest version – the iPad Mini. In terms of size, it is something in between an iPhone and a tablet, because it is 7.9 inches in size. This is a tablet that can be characterized as “more mobile” than the others. The iPad Mini is mostly sought after by people whose work requires more movement and travel and does not require as much care for the equipment. The tablet itself is small and compact, but also powerful enough. It runs everything it needs in terms of software.

In general, the iPad Mini is a combination of the hardware of the higher-sized tablets, it has the same performance, but in much more compact dimensions. People are mostly looking for them for everyday use. They have become a replacement for e-books, which were in fashion a few years ago. From the technical characteristics of the tablets themselves, it is important to mention the memory they have. There are models with 64GB of memory, as well as 128 and 256GB. In general, Apple is known for optimizing software at a very high level compared to the hardware they offer. This is clearly noticeable with the iPads.

2. iPad 9

The next model we will present to you is the iPad 9. iPad 7, iPad 8 and iPad 9 share the same dimensions and appearance. All three models still support the latest operating system.

iPad 9 is the most popular model sought by customers. It is the best combination of quality, hardware and price. This is a tablet that is very convenient for entertainment (watching YouTube and TikTok videos, browsing and social networks), and is also suitable for work. For many people nowadays, the tablet has replaced the laptop, as it is much more compact and easier to use in a lying position. The big plus of the iPad 9 (as well as its predecessors) is the similarity of the operating system with the iPhone.

We can also add that the iPad 9 is the last of the standard iPad models. After it, Apple tablets are already starting to be differentiated into Mini, Air and Pro. The iPad 9 is also the last with the typical look of the standard models with the larger frame and the home button, which is on the front. In the following models, purely design decisions were made in relation to the iPhone 12.

3. Pros and cons of the iPad versus the MacBook

As we have already mentioned, the operating system of an iPad is almost the same as that of the iPhone. For this reason, it is much easier to make a transition from iPhone to iPad than from iPhone to laptops offered by Apple, namely MacBook. A disadvantage of the iPad compared to the MacBook is, for example, that some people are used to working with a mouse and keyboard. However, Apple has taken care of this. The tablets have a so-called case that contains a mouse, trackpad and keyboard. In this way, the iPad can be turned into a fully functioning laptop with a touchscreen.

One of the big differences between iPadOS and iOS is the ability to add external hardware such as Bluetooth and wireless, depending on the models. Mice, pens and so-called peripherals can be connected to make work easier and turn the iPad into something between a tablet and a laptop. All the tablets we are looking at in today's blog article support the Apple Pencil. Depending on the year they are from, they support either the 1st or 2nd generation of the pen.

Perhaps the biggest "disadvantage" for the end user is that there is no battery health. Another important thing is that, depending on the different models, the battery lasts on average between 8 and 12-13 hours. Of course, this depends on the load. An interesting fact is that no Apple iPad has a built-in calculator. Also, the front camera of the iPad does not have a portrait mode, which may be quite bad news for those who were planning to take selfies with the tablet.

We will continue the topic of iPads in one of our next blog articles. In the meantime, on the Hop.bg website you can view all available offers for refurbished equipment at affordable prices.
